What we do

You learn the Alexander Technique through regular one-to-one lessons with a professionally qualified teacher.

Often, people are so busy responding to the demands of everyday life that they don't notice what they are doing to themselves in the process. Patterns of tension can easily build up – tension that affects both how we feel and how we come across to other people.

Some activities present additional challenges - e.g. working at a computer, driving, lifting, gardening, playing an instrument, public speaking, acting, singing, dancing or playing sport.

Your Alexander teacher will use gentle hands-on guidance and verbal explanation to help you find ease and balance within yourself in simple movements and everyday activities – such as sitting, standing, walking or bending.

Through experience and observation, you gain increased awareness enabling you to change long-standing habits and to function more efficiently. You will be able to use your new understanding in more complex and demanding activities. You will bring awareness and poise to everything you do.

Part of the lesson will include lying down on your back with your knees raised (the semi-supine position) which allows maximum support and relief for the back.

Lessons take place in a calm, relaxing environment and last 30-40 minutes. The first lesson lasts longer (usually an hour) to give you a chance to discuss your needs and find out if the Alexander Technique is for you.

Gentle hands-on guidance helps you identify your own habitual patterns
of tension and how to let them go

Learn to move more freely, breathe more easily and enjoy what you are doing from moment to moment.
